چکیده
Abstract Adaptation pathways have been conventionally viewed as an approach for planning and identifying different adaptation options the ways in which they can be realized. However, there has scant consideration of wide diversity cultural social processes shape how emerge. We argue that a lens sheds light on differential vulnerability enable or hinder adaptation. A focuses intrinsically intersectional categories impact adaptive agency resilience individuals, households, communities. In particular, we need to examine beliefs, norms, practices change over time, are reflected since livelihoods do not remain same life course. Additionally, taking broader perspective by incorporating concepts from cognitive anthropology helps us understand motivations choices influence pathways.

Adaptation to Climate Change
We investigate the effect of climate change on population growth in 18th and 19th century Iceland. We find that annual temperature changes help determine the population growth rate in preindustrial Iceland: a year 1◦C cooler than average drives down population growth rates by 0.57% in each of the next two years, for a total effect of 1.14%. We also find that 18th and 19th century Icelanders ada...

متن کاملManaging Climate Change Refugia for Climate Adaptation
Refugia have long been studied from paleontological and biogeographical perspectives to understand how populations persisted during past periods of unfavorable climate. Recently, researchers have applied the idea to contemporary landscapes to identify climate change refugia, here defined as areas relatively buffered from contemporary climate change over time that enable persistence of valued ph...
